What is importance of KFT
A Kidney Function Test (KFT) is an important diagnostic tool used to assess the functioning of the kidneys. It is used to measure the presence of certain chemicals or waste products in the blood and urine that are normally filtered out by the kidneys. KFT results can help diagnose and monitor a variety of conditions, such as kidney disease, urinary tract infection, and diabetes. Results can also help determine if medications are having any negative effects on the kidneys.
KFT parameters
The test measures the amount of urea, creatinine, and electrolytes in the blood, and tests the urine for albumin and sugar. Urea, creatinine, and electrolytes are all produced in the body and are filtered out by the kidneys. Increased levels of these substances can indicate a problem with kidney function.
High levels of albumin in the urine can indicate inflammation in the kidneys or other illnesses.
Increased levels of sugar in the urine can indicate diabetes.
KFT is generally done as part of a comprehensive physical or as part of a routine screening for certain conditions.
Procedure
It is usually done by collecting a sample of the patient’s blood and urine, which are then tested in a laboratory.
